Choosing a taxi for passengers, luggage & group travel

The right vehicle depends on what you are taking as well as who is travelling. Use this guide when planning a local taxi in West Yorkshire, a group pickup or an airport journey with AA Carz.

Start with the whole travelling party

Count everyone who will travel, including children, and give the team the total before discussing vehicles. Our website shows four-seat saloons, six-seat vehicles, eight-seat vehicles and estates. These categories help explain your options, but the team should confirm which vehicle suits your particular journey and is available.

If you need several collection stops around Shipley, Baildon or Bradford, list them at booking. Agree the order and times so everyone knows where to be. One lead passenger with the booking details makes it easier to communicate any changes.

Saloon or estate: look beyond the seat count

For an everyday local journey with light luggage, a saloon may be suitable. An estate may be worth discussing when you have more bags or a bulky item. Do not assume a specific item will fit simply because a car is described as an estate: give its approximate dimensions if space is important.

A folded pushchair plus shopping bags is a different requirement from a single overnight bag. Let the team know what will be carried so they can consider the load alongside the number of passengers. Our vehicle selector illustrates the categories; the vehicle supplied is confirmed when booking.

Six-seat and eight-seat bookings

A larger passenger vehicle can help a group travel together, but every occupied seat can affect the space left for bags. For an airport transfer, provide a separate count of large suitcases and cabin bags. Ask the team whether one vehicle can accommodate everyone and everything, or whether another arrangement is needed.

For a social trip, work outing or family visit, make sure the organiser has the complete passenger list. If another person joins later, contact the team before pickup. Avoid relying on an extra seat or extra luggage space that has not been confirmed.

Travelling with pets

Ask for a pet-friendly journey in advance and explain the animal’s type, size and whether it will travel in a carrier. This gives the team the opportunity to confirm a suitable vehicle. A pet-friendly booking is a journey requirement, rather than a separate guarantee of extra passenger or luggage capacity.

If you also have a pushchair, several bags or other equipment, mention those at the same time. Planning the whole load together is more useful than adding requirements one by one after a vehicle has been arranged.

Accessibility and boarding needs

Contact the team before booking if a passenger needs a particular boarding arrangement or will travel with a wheelchair or mobility aid. Explain whether the equipment folds and whether the passenger needs to remain seated in it. These are different requirements and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Share the information needed to arrange the journey without sending medical records. Discuss child-seat needs in advance too, rather than assuming equipment will be carried in every vehicle. The team can confirm what is possible for your booking.

A useful message to send the team

For example: “We need a pickup in Shipley for four passengers, with three large suitcases, two cabin bags and a folded pushchair, travelling to Manchester Airport. Can you confirm a suitable vehicle and the price?” Add your exact address, travel date and timing when making the enquiry.

For local journeys, the same approach works: passenger count, pickup, destination and anything that needs space. Read our local pickup guide for Shipley and Bradford or the airport planning checklist to prepare the remaining details.
